Remodeling Tips

Prior to enjoying the pleasures of your new kitchen, there is the remodeling construction. In order to make it as easy as possible, we invite you to take advantage of the great tips we’ve put together for you!

Plan a location outside of the area where the remodeling is being done to act as your temporary kitchen.

Don’t forget:

  • Cover doorways into other rooms with plastic.
  • Pack everything that won’t be needed into boxes. This will keep things dust free.
  • Keep essential items hands: basic foods that can be micro-waved, condiments, cereal, microwave-safe dishes and utensils, dishcloths, dishwashing soap, paper plates, cups, coffee, coffee pot and sugar/creamer, paper towels, napkins and garbage bags.
  • Coffee Maker (don’t forget to put the filters and coffee close at hand too!)
  • You will be without water in the kitchen for a short time. You may need to do dishes in another sink or the bathtub for awhile.
  • Many contractors will wait until cabinets have arrived before tearing out your current cabinets. Be sure to clarify this point with your contractor!
  • Set up the microwave and refrigerator in another area, along with a table for preparation.
  • Stockpile restaurant coupons for the nights when you really want to eat out!
  • Relax and rely on your kitchen designer. There will be a beautiful kitchen when all the dust is gone!!
  • Bathroom remodel, remember the hairdryer and curling irons! Plan as you are going on vacation, to make sure that nothing gets packed that you will need during the remodeling process!

Don’t forget about the dogs and cats. If there isn’t an area in your home to keep them safely away from construction, especially during certain phases – it maybe is a perfect time to treat your pet to a vacation at the kennel or a play date at a friend’s home.

Decide in advance where you’d like the installers to store their tools.

Dust there is just no way to avoid it! If there is a fish tank or electrical equipment in close proximity to the work, remember to keep them well covered!!
